My name is Phil Mellor, and I live in Leeds, West Yorkshire. I'm a technical consultant for Morse PLC, and mostly spend my working days developing web applications with ASP.NET and MOSS 2007, and banging on about design, accessibility and usability to anyone who might listen. You might think that Microsoft, ASP.NET and MOSS aren't exactly synonymous with quality web design, and you'd be right - but that's where I come in and try to improve things.
I'm not actually going to tell you much more about me here, but rather some of the things I like and am interested in. I'll probably add more items to this page as I think of them.
RISC OS is (was?) a great operating system, with the emphasis on productivity, usability and simplicity. It's a shame that it never achieved the popularity it deserved. Sometimes I write articles for a RISC OS news site called The Icon Bar, and although I don't tend to use my Iyonix PC much these days, I still follow the RISC OS scene with a mixture of intrigue and mild exasperation.
Beer is great. The best place to drink beer in Horsforth, perhaps even Leeds, is the Town Street Tavern. None of that commercial, mass produced tat - they have local ales on tap and quality export bottles.
And what about music? I like lots of stuff - anything that's any good, really. Here are some examples: Belle and Sebastian, Gravenhurst, High Llamas, Cinematic Orchestra, Deru, Boards of Canada, Max Richter, Mazzy Star, REM, Tom Waits, Paddy McAloon, Beta Band, Circlesquare, Rothko, The Necks, Hefner, Set Fire To Flames, Mole Harness, Hawk And A Hacksaw, Looper, Calexico, Sigur Ros, Jonathan Richmand, Timesbold, John Vanderslice, Tiger... wanders off to look at CD collection. Never returns.
